Knowledge takes many forms. Some prefer books and written word as well as the smell of paper. Others love a nice video to clearly see the process. Luckiest of us can also enjoy the benefits of personalized classes, in person and very hands on.

Not a book but it’s not that far from it. Link takes you to an Etsy shop where you can buy different tutorials on different corset and costume making techniques. Because you love them so much, I must inform you, there are tutorials on making cupped corsets!

Irina covers all aspects of creating this particular underbust corset, from start to finish, using genuine leather as the material. Underbust corset pattern is included.

Linda Sparks takes the reader  through basic corset making supplies, construction technique options as well as how to fit a corset and make how to make alterations.

Corset Cutting & Making by Marion McNealy, W.D.F Vincent
Corset pattern book packed full of corset patterns drafted from antique patterns, not garments (as it’s usually the case). It contains 19 unusually cut corset patterns as well as loads of valuable additional information about construction details and their history. Patterns contained in the book can be purchased separately in full size, from NadelUndFadenPress.

Corsets and Crinolines by Norah Waugh
Essentially, one of the must have books with corset patterns. A cult classic. It is filled with a nice amount of corset patterns based on existing antique garments, paired with very interesting bits of historical information.
Some newer books are based on the foundations of this gem.

Corseting the 21st century body – Techniques and Patterning in CAD by Caroline Woollin
Ebook on how to use CAD program to draft corset patterns digitally. Includes some basic made to measure corset pattern drafting instructions as well as three different multi-sized finished corset patterns.

Corsets Historical Patterns & Techniques by Jill Salen
Physical book packed full of many different corset patterns directly taken from real garments. Pattern range from 1750s to 1950s with many lovely stay patterns, as well as a few ribbon corset patterns. All patterns included are one size only with measurements depending on the original, and they need to be sized up before use. Every pattern is also accompanied with a few photos of the garment it is based of as well as some interesting information on it.

Fashions of the Gilded Age, Volume 1: Undergarments, Bodices, Skirts, Overskirts, Polonaises, and Day Dresses 1877-1882 by Frances Grimble
Collection of 160 antique sewing patterns. Must be used in conjunction with it’s sizing ruler to resize pattern in the book. Should contain 7 corset patterns. Fairly advanced but a lovely historical resource!

Physical book with many corset patterns based on existing antique garments. Pattern are more technical in their nature since Mandy uses the drafting technique very similar to what you can learn from Corsetmaking Revolution by Cathy Hay, to help you draft your version of an antique corset pattern.

Stays and Corsets Volume 2: Historical Patterns Translated for the Modern Body by Mandy Barrington
Physical book with many corset patterns based on existing antique garments. Pattern are more technical in their nature since Mandy uses the drafting technique very similar to what you can learn from Corsetmaking Revolution by Cathy Hay, to help you draft your version of an antique corset pattern.
As the title says, it’s the second book with different, new patterns to play with.

The Little Corset Book: A Workbook on Period Underwear by Bonnie Holt Ambrose
Tiny book. So tiny, some might refer to it as a “glorified pamphlet”. Limited amount of information on pattern drafting and assembly.

Waisted Efforts: An Illustrated Guide to Corset Making by Robert Doyle
Unicorn of corset making books. A very expensive unicorn if you manage to track it down.
It contains a modernized pattern construction of antique corset patterns found in Corsets and Crinolines by Norah Waught. Also, it is know as the Corsetry Bible though some believe it is over-hyped.
